Turns out you can steam broccoli in a microwave and it's actually GOOD! Somehow, surprisingly, it steams evenly even though my microwave is usually terrible about hot spots. This is my go-to meal now for when I'm craving a warm meal but don't have the time to cook.
You will need:
Broccoli (maybe half a head or a bit more)
Blue cheese (about 70g-ish? Or more, I'm not judging you)
Butter (a thick slab)
A pinch or two of salt
Optional: a clove of garlic
And of course you'll need a microwave safe dish with a lid. I use a Pyrex dish, but a bowl covered with a plate would work just fine.
Divide your broccoli into florets. Throw them into the dish. If you've not washed them, add a tiny splash of water - less than a tablespoon, otherwise the sauce will turn out soupy. Sprinkle with salt, cover with a lid or plate and stick it into the microwave on high. The time depends on your microwave, mine takes about 6-7 minutes but if you have a more powerful microwave it might be less. While it's being nuked, finely chop up a clove of garlic. About a minute before the broccoli is done, throw the chopped garlic in with it and continue nuking. When it's done, add the butter and cheese (crumbled or cut into smaller pieces) into the broccoli, cover it again and wait for the residual heat to melt them. Then toss the broccoli around for a bit so that the melted cheese and butter combine into a sauce and cover all the florets.
